Discernment retreats in Évron

Am I called to become a priest? Do I have the vocation?

  • Any time during the year, you can come and make a retreat in Évron. The priests responsable for the formation are at your disposal in order to help you discern the will of God, and the supporting frame of the seminary will permit you to better hear the voice of the Lord.
  • Otherwise, the Community offers two retreats specifically destined to the discernment of the vocation (the week before Christmas and Holy Week before Easter).

1. What is a priest?

The existential communion which the priest has to establish with Christ is the central point to all of the priestly spirituality.

Extract from the ritual of the ordination of priests

Do you resolve, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to discharge without fail the office of priesthood in the presbyteral rank, as worthy fellow workers with the Order of Bishops for the Lord’s flock?

– I do.

Do you resolve to exercise the ministry of the word worthily wisely, preaching the Gospel and teaching the Catholic faith?

– I do.

2. How does one become a priest?

Priestly blessing
During the formation process of at least six years, the Church asks to distinguish the steps which marks the progress of the seminarian.

Do you resolve to celebrate faithfully and reverently, accord with Church’s tradition, the mysteries of Christ, especially the sacrifice of the Eucharist and the sacrament of Reconciliation, for the glory of God and the sanctification of the Christian people?

– I do.

Do you resolve to implore with us God’s mercy upon the people entrusted to your care by observing the command to pray without ceasing?

– I do.

Do you resolve to be united more closely every day to Christ High Priest, who offered himself for us to the Father as a pure sacrifice, and with him to consecrate yourselves to God for the salvation of all?

– I do, with the help of God.

3. How do I know whether I am being called?

The vocation is a loving call of God which is often manifested in a discrete way. It passes in particular by three things: the desire, the experience and the aptitudes.

Prayer for vocations

Lord Jesus,
You who always called men to serve You as priests
in the Church of the third millennium,
give to the men to which you address your call the courage to answer it.
You, the Master of the harvest,
teach them to follow you lavishly,
teach them to faithfully keep your Word,
teach them to love the Eucharist,
teach them to say with Mary and Martin:
Fiat, may your will be done”,
so that they may become the pastors that the world needs.
