Elected by the members of the Community for a six-year term (renewable twice), the Moderator General is responsible for governing the Community, both in terms of the formation and life of priests and deacons, as well as relations with the Holy See and the bishops. Usually residing at the Mother House in Évron, he visits the various local communities.
Don Paul Préaux has been Moderator General since 2010. He was re-elected in 2022 for a third six-year term.
Chosen from among the members of the Community Council, the Assistant Generals assist the Moderator General in governing the Community. They reside in Évron and also visit local communities, meet with members, and represent the Community.

Composed of ex officio members, members elected by all members of the Community, and members appointed by the Moderator General, it is involved in the governance of the Community. The Statutes stipulate that its consent is required for certain decisions, such as the creation of new local communities, the appointment of local community leaders, the approval of accounts, etc.

Since 4 July 2024, the government of the Community of Saint Martin has been accompanied by two Apostolic Assistants:
Appointed by the Holy See following the periodic pastoral visit carried out in 2022-2023, they have been given the mission of accompanying the Community for three years, particularly in reviewing the history of its foundation and the process of initial and ongoing formation of its members.
